Woodstock 1969


Para poder entender la cultura musical de finales de la década de los '60, no podemos dejar de hablar del mayor festival de música de la historia: Woodstock.

Fue en agosto de 1969, en América. El amor era libre, los jóvenes soñaban con vivir en una caravana, los chicos llevaban el pelo largo y se cubrian de amuletos, las chicas llevaban faldas de colores, la música era en vinilo; las drogas y el retorno a la naturaleza, una religión; la paz se vivía como una causa y la vida todavía estaba por delante.

Estaban cansados de la guerra en Vietnam, la retórica vacía de los políticos, el racismo, la Iglesia que prohibía, las familias y las ciudades que los obligaban a pertenecer a la sociedad sin creer en sus valores. El balance de Woodstock'69: decenas de nuevos amigos, innumerables experiencias extraordinarias y al borde de lo legal, dos muertes (una sobredosis y un joven, casualmente atropellado por un tractor mientras dormía), y dos nacimientos.


El cartel, diseñado por Arnold Skolnik, prometía tres días de paz y música, y no mentía. Muchos de los que actuaron aquel agosto se convirtieron en leyendas musicales: Credence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Blood, Sweat&Tears, The Grateful Dead, Ravi Shankar, o el jovencísimo y casi desconocido entonces, Joe Cocker.

Woodstock, al igual que sólo un puñado de los acontecimientos históricos, se ha convertido en parte del léxico culturales. Como Watergate es la clave para una crisis de confianza nacional y Waterloo significa ignominiosa derrota, Woodstock se ha convertido en un instante adjetivo que indica el hedonismo juvenil y 60's exceso. "Lo que había aquí era una vez en la vida aparición", dijo el historiador de la ciudad de Bethel Bert Feldman. "Dickens dijo primero:" Fue el mejor de los momentos. Es el peor de los tiempos ". Es una amalgama que nunca se reproduce de nuevo."
